Scripture…comes from the Father, proclaiming the Son, and is inspired by the Holy Spirit

“To be sure, our minds need to be convinced that the Bible is God’s Word but Calvin emphasizes that, above all, our consciences need o be assured that salvation comes from God and not ourselves. Although the human authors are God’s ambassadors, Scripture ultimately is ‘not the word of apostles but of God himself; not a voice born on earth but one descended from heaven.’ Yet this God who speaks is three persons. Scripture is authoritative because it comes from the Father, but just as much because the Son is its content and the Spirit is its perfecting agent. For Calvin, Scripture is the Word of God because it comes from the Father, proclaiming the Son, and is inspired by the Holy Spirit, who then illumines us to understand and embrace it.” – Mike Horton in the book “Calvin on the Christian Life” (57-58).
